Who's up to join me and Martin Bom to run the Hark the Herald Angels run on Angel Island December 12? I'm running the 12 km.

3 hrs 19 min 08 sec (never mind the clock shown). I beat my personal goal of 3 hrs 30 min and I can now proudly call myself a Triathlete. YEAH!!!! GO TEAM.
13 days until I can call myself official a triathlete! I have completed several try-tri's but no official competition yet so, I don't want to brag yet.
This weekend was another busy weekend. Started Saturday with my first open water swim. The experience was "lacking". A nice word to say that I did not do very well in murky salt water where I could not see my hands in front of me. After the swim we ran for 4 miles. That was much easier.
I feel surprisingly ok after my Sprint triathlon yesterday. Wonder what I will do tonight. Veg out or go for a short bike ride.
When I woke up this morning I decided that I was going to complete my first triathlon today. A sprint distance, just to prove to myself that I could do it and to also get a better idea to what my estimated time for Pacific Grove would be. 96 minutes and 1,400 calories later, I did it. 22 minutes for 750 meters swim; 45 minutes for 20 km of biking and 29 minutes for 5 km of running. YEAH!!!! This was actually much better than I thought!
Our family tradition for the last couple of years has been to watch the 4th of July parade in Redwood City, CA (20 miles south of San Francisco). Every year we looked at the runners participating in the 5k run. So this year, we joined them. Tomi and I finished the 5k run, Carolyne finished 3.3 km and Eryk did 1 km. Hopefully next year they can do better. I completed the 5k in 28'45", Tomi completed hers in 33'54".
Thank you all for donating over $1,500 so far to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. As I promised earlier, I would swim 1 meter for every $1 raised. So today I swam 1,500 meters in the Fremont High School pool. 1,500 meters by coincidence is the distance I need to swim in open water for my triathlon. (yes I know, this is lap swimming, I can stop briefly between laps, so it's not the same as open water swimming)
Lesson #1: always stretch
TNT Team track meeting at Foothill College tonight. I learned more about running and running style today in 3 minutes than I did ever before. I can now say that the Team In Training coaches are totally worth it!!! After some good advice I put down my fastest 800 meter to date. 3:42 (that's ~ 7:24 min mile). Add a couple of km's, core strength exercises and good stretching to top it all off.

I turned 42 Thursday and celebrated this Thursday and Friday. My sister sent me a nice hydration belt for me to use during my training. My in-laws sent some pictures from our wedding 13 yrs ago and I must say that I look pretty much the same as I did in my late 20s (ok that's pushing it, maybe like I did in my early 30s). The things is that I do feel almost as good. I don't think I could have done all this running and swimming 10 or so years ago. The power of exercise!!!
Since all of you donated $1,000 in less than 24 hrs, I felt compelled and obligated to swim 1,000 yards today. I guess that means that when the fundraising total breaks $2,000, I will be swimming 2,000 yards. :-) Nothing like some good motivation to get going. Thank you all for giving me a big kick under the butt.
I got my speedos and tested them out in the pool today; I swam doe 1/2 mile. My son was in the pool for this swimming lessons. So I decided to lap swim for the duration of his lesson. 25 minutes later, I clocked 32 laps which turned out to be about 1/2 mile. Not bad for my first time in the pool in a while. (Note, I did take short breaks several times between laps).
Renee is one of the players on the U11G comp soccer team that I coach. Renee was diagnosed with Burkett's Lymphoma Stage 3 on Aug 4th 2008. For the following 3 months after diagnosis she went through very intensive chemotherapy with her final dose on Oct 24th 2008. At this point she is in remission with no known cancerous cells and is again playing soccer at a competitive level.
Renee's family is very thankful to Lucille Packard and the doctors and nurses and staff from oncology for helping Renee go through the ordeal of recovery. The research done for understanding and treating this complex cell disorder is very appreciated not only by her family but also all who have seen a loved one suffering from lymphoma or leukemia or any cancer for that matter. Renee and her family hope this research continues until all of us can figure out the cause and the cure of these cancers with a 100% chance of remission.
Renee, I'm training for this triathlon in your honor. You are my hero. Your determination to fight Lymphoma is truly inspiring.
Played another indoor soccer game. This time we won and I scored a goal with a header. For those of you who saw Messi's beautiful goal in the Champions League final yesterday, it was definitely not in the same class :-)
